Building a Website in Flash 8 Professional-Inc Project Files

Building a Website in Flash 8 Professional. Includes Project Files

In this video series, Craig unleashes the power of Flash Professional 8 on the Flash web development process. Throughout the course

of this series, you'll learn everything you need to know to create your own jaw-dropping website in Flash 8. But even if you don't HAVE

the latest version of Flash, this video series is still for you. From time to time, throughout the course of this series, Craig jumps back

and forth between older versions of Flash in order to illustrate how to achieve some of the same feats for those of you who don't have

version 8.

Note: The project files for this series are all in version 8 format, so if you have an older version of Flash, you won't be able to open

these sample fla files. However, you will still be able to follow along in the videos just fine.

Detailed Video Descriptions

1 - Introduction (Running Time: 2:30)

In this video, Craig welcomes you to the series and gives you a brief explanation of what to expect as well as a brief exhortation to

"stay inspired".

2 - Building a Basic Website (Running Time: 18:32)

Building a basic website in Flash can be easier than you might think. In this video, Craig teaches you some of the basic theory behind

putting a website together using Flash, and he jumps right in and gets you started creating your first website.

3 - Making it Work (Running Time: 21:40)

A website won't do you much good if your buttons won't take you from one page to the next. In this video, Craig shows you how to

add actions to your buttons in order to create basic navigation for your site.

4 - Adding Button Actions to a Frame (Running Time: 17:32)

You've added actions to your button instances themselves, but do you know how to create the same functionality by adding the

actions to a frame instead of a button? In this video, Craig will show you how to keep all your Actionscript in one central area by adding

actions for your buttons to a frame.

5 - Animated Buttons (Running Time: 18:04)

Make your boring buttons a little more compelling by animating them! In this video, Craig will show you how to do just that.

6 - Movie Clip Buttons, Part 1 (Running Time: 16:19)

Ignore everything you've learned about buttons so far . . . well, not everything. In this video, Craig introduces the concept of creating

buttons using movie clip symbols instead of button symbols. This technique allows you a little more flexibility--and hence, a little more

creativity--with your buttons.

7 - Movie Clip Buttons, Part 2 (Running Time: 19:02)

Now that you've created your movie clip buttons, Craig will show you in this video how to add actions to them to make them function

properly. He then walks you through a quick discussion of duplicating movie clips in order to make multiple buttons for a menu.

8 - Invisible Buttons (Running Time: 7:21)

In this video, Craig will discuss the use of invisible buttons to create clickable hotspots in your website. He also hints at another use of

the invisible button, which will be discussed in detail in a later video.

9 - Button Instances (Running Time: 9:01)

In this video, Craig discusses the difference between symbols and instances of symbols. He uses a set of button instances to illustrate

his point.

10 - Button Rollover Effects (Running Time: 19:09)

In this video, you will learn how to add a rollOver action to your buttons that will trigger an event in a separate movie clip. In other

words, when you hover over the "home" button, you'll see a cute little animation of a house on the opposite side of the stage.

11 - Popup Menus (Running Time: 33:54)

In this self-explanatory video, Craig will show you how to create a popup menu. In the process, you will finally learn another use for the

aforementioned invisible button.

12 - Simple Page Transitions (Running Time: 13:14)

Transitioning from one page in your website to another can be pretty boring if you don't try to give it a little life. In this video, Craig will

show you how to create simple, animated transitions between the pages of your website.

13 - A Note About Hit States (Running Time: 12:06)

In all versions of Flash before version 8 hit the shelves, Flash developers had to be very concerned with hit states, especially when

creating a button that consisted only of text. In this video, Craig explains how that concern has been greatly lessened in Flash 8, and

he also discusses cases in which you will still need to use a hit state. Also, he will show you how to create a hit state for a movie clip

button.

14 - Building a One-Frame Website, Part 1 (Running Time: 17:06)

If you try to put all your animations on the main timeline, it will start to become very bulky very quickly. In this video, Craig will illustrate

how to create an entire website that only takes up one frame in the main timeline.

15 - Building a One-Frame Website, Part 2 (Running Time: 13:05)

In this video, Craig demonstrates a second method for consolidating your main timeline in one frame. This method involves stacking all

your websites on top of each other in the form of movie clips and then turning them off and on as needed.

16 - Functions (Running Time: 22:00)

All you designers out there are probably cringing at the title of this video . . . but don't worry. In this video, Craig will ease your

Actionscript-induced fears as he explains in very simple terms what a function is and how it works. He discusses and demonstrates the

use of functions with and without parameters.

17 - The currentPage Variable (Running Time: 32:22)

Variables! Another programming term that makes right-brained designers shudder. Admittedly, the concepts in this video start to get a

little tricky for the beginning Actionscripter, but it's a crucial concept to understand in order to make your page navigations more robust.

18 - Website Tour (Running Time: 4:06)

It's finally time to get started on the project website for the video series. In this video, Craig will walk you through the website you will

be creating.

19 - Assembling the Stage (Running Time: 30:33)

As the construction of the project begins, Craig walks you through the layout and assembly of the skeleton of the project website.

20 - Grand Hotel Buttons, Part 1 (Running Time: 35:4Cool

In this video, Craig puts all of his button tutorials into use as he walks you through the creation of the buttons on the main menu of

the project website.

21 - Grand Hotel Buttons, Part 2 (Running Time: 20:22)

Above the main menu on the project website is another set of three buttons that look and behave a little differently than the buttons

on the main menu. After encouraging you to put your skills to the test by creating the button animations on your own, Craig shows

you his process for assembling the buttons.

22 - Creating a Simple Preloader (Running Time: 19:49)

If your users have to sit and stare at a blank screen until your website is finally finished loading, chances are you will lose many

potential viewers. In this video, Craig explains the importance of letting your users know that your website is indeed loading, and he

shows you how to create a simple preloader that will do the trick.

23 - Creating an Intermediate Preloader (Running Time: 13:31)

In this video, Craig will show you how to take your preloader to the next level by adding a percentage counter to your preloader. This

lets the user know exactly how much of the website has been loaded. This way, the user will know if he has time to go grab a cup of

coffee.

24 - Creating an Advanced Preloader (Running Time: 11:03)

By the end of this video, you'll be an expert at creating preloaders. Using some of the same information he used in the last video,

Craig will explain how to create a loading bar preloader, which gives the user a visual representation of how much of the website has

been loaded.

25 - Grand Hotel Preloader (Running Time: 24:19)

This video walks you through a somewhat complicated, though often used, variation on the loading bar preloader. The preloader

created in this video will be added to the Grand Hotel project website.

26 - Loading an External swf (Running Time: 20:06)

If the user had to wait for an entire website to load before he or she even saw the home page, chances are he or she would have

plenty of time to grab that cup of coffee we mentioned earlier. This video demonstrates how to create and load separate Flash files

that serve as different sections of the website.

27 - Creating a Mask Animation (Running Time: 25:43)

In this video, we take a little break from all the complicated Actionscript mumbo-jumbo to create a super cool animation effect for

animating your pages onto the stage.

28 - Loading Text from an External Text File (Running Time: 29:55)

Opening up an FLA file in Flash every time you need to make textual changes to your website can really be a pain. In this video, Craig

shows you how to tie a dynamic text field to an external text file. Using this method, when you need to update the text on your site,

all you have to do is open up Notepad and go to town on your text.

29 - Importing Video (Running Time: 20:44)

If you haven't already purchased Flash 8, this video might just be the one that pushes you over the edge and forces you to get it. In

this video, Craig shows you how incredibly simple it is to import video into Flash in version 8.

30 - Debugging Preloader Problems (Running Time: 9:13)

Knowing how to put a preloader together sometimes just isn't enough. In this video, Craig will walk you through some common errors

that occur with preloaders and show you how to fix them.

31 - Preloading External Files (Running Time: 14:29)

Remember all those external swf files that you're importing into your main file? Well, chances are that many of them will be as big as, if

not bigger than, your main file. So naturally, it would be the polite thing to do to create a preloader for these files as well. In this video,

Craig will show you how to do just that.

32 - Using the MovieClipLoader Class (Running Time: 30:4Cool

Now that we've created a preloader for these external swf files, it's time to make them function properly. The process for doing this is

a bit different than the process for making your main preloader. In this video, Craig will show you how to use the MovieClipLoader class

to make these external preloaders function properly.

33 - Creating a Photo Gallery (Running Time: 26:53)

Tired of sending those vacation photos to everyone on your email list? Wouldn't it be easier just to send them a link to your website,

where all your photos are sitting there, waiting to be seen? In this video, Craig will show you how to put together a simple photo gallery

using Flash.

34 - Creating Forms in Flash (Running Time: 26:00)

Unfortunately, Flash doesn't have the ability to create fully-functioning forms all by itself. But with the help of a little server-side

scripting, Craig shows you how it's possible to create your own forms in Flash.

35 - Button Functions (Running Time: 34:40)

We created our buttons for the Grand Hotel website earlier in this series, but these aren't your average buttons. It's going to take a

little bit of fancy Actionscripting in order to get them working properly. In this video, Craig shows you how to create some custom

functions that will make your buttons behave like you want them to.

36 - Finishing Touches (Running Time: 17:0Cool

In this video, Craig adds a few more finishing touches to the Grand Hotel project website in order to wrap up the project.

37 - Publishing Your Website (Running Time: 12:31)

Congratulations! You've finished creating your website in Flash, but now what? In this video, Craig will show you what you need to do to

publish your website for the world to view. Included in the discussion is a quick list of all the files you will need to upload to your web

server.

The Needs Of Humanity In The Mission Of Prophet Muhammad

Ebook

The Needs Of Humanity In The Mission Of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): This is a research that was developed to answer the Westerners who presently asking what new aspects Prophet Muhammad -peace be upon him- offered to the world?

Some Westerners are presently asking what new aspects Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered to the world. Undoubtedly, all those who conveyed great messages were great in themselves, great in their lives. And although they appeared during specific periods of history, they left their mark, not only on their own societies, but on the history of the entire world.

Among them was our Prophet, Muhammad (PBUH).The outstanding feature of his greatness lies in the fact that he was the bearer of a divine monotheistic message. It was a comprehensive message aimed basically at the amendment of human life, shifting it from barbarism and paganism to a monotheistic civilization based on certainty of faith.

Will Durant, the American research scholar and author of ?The Story of Civilization?, wrote:

"When we judge greatness by what effect a great person left on people, we could say that Muhammad ? was one of the greatest figures in history. For he took it upon himself to elevate the spiritual and moral level of a people cast into the shadows of savagery by the heat and aridity of the desert. He succeeded in the realization of that goal on a scale never achieved by any other reformer in history. Very seldom do we find someone who actually achieved that of which he dreamt. It was not merely because he was an extremely religious person, but because there was no influence other than that of religion which motivated the Arabs of that time to follow the path he pursued. When he began his mission, the land of Arabia was an arid desert inhabited by a few disunited polytheistic tribes. But by the time of his death it had become a unified, cohesive nation. He had tamed the
anarchy of fanaticism and superstition and established a religion over Judaism, Christianity and the ancient beliefs of his land that was uncomplicated, lucid and powerful, a bastion of morality, honesty, valor and national honor. Within a single generation he was able to triumph in a hundred battles, to found a great nation within one century, and remain until this day a formidable power throughout half of the world."

We, of the Program for Introducing the Prophet of Mercy (PBUH) , consider it among our obligations to answer the questions pertaining to what Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) offered to the world and to humanity with reference to the topics that follow.

Conditions Of Laa ilaaha ill-Allah

Islam is the complete submission and obedience to Allah (God).

The name Allah (God) in Islam never refers to Muhammad (pbuh), as many Christians may think; Allah is the personal name of God.

What do Muslims believe about Allah?

1. He is the one God, Who has no partner.

2. Nothing is like Him. He is the Creator, not created, nor a part of His creation.

3. He is All-Powerful, absolutely Just.

4. There is no other entity in the entire universe worthy of worship besides Him.

5. He is First, Last, and Everlasting; He was when nothing was, and will be when nothing else remains.

6. He is the All-Knowing, and All-Merciful,the Supreme, the Sovereign.

7. It is only He Who is capable of granting life to anything.

8. He sent His Messengers (peace be upon them) to guide all of mankind.

9. He sent Muhammad (pbuh) as the last Prophet and Messenger for all mankind.

10. His book is the Holy Qur'an, the only authentic revealed book in the world that has been kept without change.

11. Allah knows what is in our hearts.

The Quran tells us many wonderful things about Jesus. As a result, believers in the Quran love Jesus, honor him and believe in him. In fact, no Muslim can be a Muslim unless he or she believes in Jesus, on whom be peace. The Quran says that Jesus was born of a virgin, that he spoke while he was still only a baby, that he healed the blind and the leper by God's leave and that he raised the dead by God's leave. What then is the significance of these miracles? First, the virgin birth. God demonstrates His power to create in every way. God created everyone we know from a man and a woman. But how about Adam, on whom be peace? God created him from neither a man nor a woman. And Eve from only a man, without a woman. And finally, to complete the picture, God created Jesus from a woman, without a man.

What about the other miracles? These were to show that Jesus was not acting on his own behalf, but that he was backed by God. The Quran specifies that these miracles were performed by God's leave. This may be compared to the Book of Acts in the Bible, chapter 2, verse 22, where it says that the miracles were done by God to show that he approved of Jesus. Also, note that Jesus himself is recorded in the Gospel of John to have said: ?I can do nothing of my own authority' (5:30). The miracles, therefore, were done not by his own authority, but by God's authority. What did Jesus teach? The Quran tells us that Jesus came to teach the same basic message which was taught by previous prophets from God ? that we must shun every false god and worship only the One True God. Jesus taught that he is the servant and messenger of the One True God, the God of Abraham. These Quranic teachings can be compared with the Bible (Mark 10:18; Matthew 26:39; John 14:28, 17:3, and 20:17) where Jesus teaches that the one he worshipped is the only true God. See also Matthew 12:18; Acts 3:13, and 4:27 where we find that his disciples knew him as ?Servant of God?. The Quran tells us that some of the Israelites rejected Jesus, and conspired to kill him, but God rescued Jesus and raised him to Himself. God will cause Jesus to descend again, at which time Jesus will confirm his true teachings and everyone will believe in him as he is and as the Quran teaches about him. Jesus is the Messiah. He is a word from God, and a spirit from Him. He is honored in this world and in the hereafter, and he is one of those brought nearest to God. Jesus was a man who spoke the truth which he heard from God. This can be compared with the Gospel According John where Jesus says to the Israelites: ?You are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God? (John 8:40).

Software Design Methodology: From Principles to Architectural Styles

Software design methodology has come a long way since the 1960s and 1970s when programmers were limited to Pascal/C and SA/SD to create systems. When creating information systems for today's world, many factors must be taken into consideration including globalization, the software lifecycle, modeling, coding, testing, and maintenance. * In depth coverage of large scale software systems and the handling of their design problems * Many worked examples, exercises and case studies to reinforce theory and practice * Gain an understanding of the general theory of design methodology

XML Primer Plus : Ebooks

This book presents XML programming from a conceptual perspective, teaching not just the technology, but the background and thinking behind it. Developers learn to do it right, gaining a thorough understanding of the hows and the whys from the ground up. Rather than teaching programmers to memorize specific APIs, this book teaches programmers how to think about XML programming in a language-neutral way, with examples in various languages (such as Java, C++, Perl, and VB) and provides guidance on how and when XML can be used in real-world situations.

Java Cryptography Extensions: Practical Guide for Programmers (The Practical Guides)

For a long time, there has been a need for a practical, down-to-earth developers book for the Java Cryptography Extension. I am very happy to see there is now a book that can answer many of the technical questions that developers, managers, and researchers have about such a critical topic. I am sure that this book will contribute greatly to the success of securing Java applications and deployments for e-business. --Anthony Nadalin, Java Security Lead Architect, IBM

For many Java developers and software engineers, cryptography is an "on-demand" programming exercise, where cryptographic concepts are shelved until the next project requires renewed focus. But considerations for cryptography must be made early on in the design process and its imperative that developers know what kinds of solutions exist.

One of Javas solutions to help bridge the gap between academic research and real-world problem solving comes in the form of a well-defined architecture for implementing cryptographic solutions. However, to use the architecture and its extensions, it is important to recognize the pros and cons of different cryptographic algorithms and to know how to implement various devices like key agreements, digital signatures, and message digests, to name a few.

In Java Cryptography Extensions (JCE), cryptography is discussed at the level that developers need to know to work with the JCE and with their own applications but that doesnt overwhelm by packing in details unimportant to the busy professional. The JCE is explored using numerous code examples and instructional detail, with clearly presented sections on each aspect of the Java library. An online open-source cryptography toolkit and the code for all of the examples further reinforces the concepts covered within the book. No other resource presents so concisely or effectively the exact material needed to begin utilizing the JCE.

* Written by a seasoned veteran of both cryptography and server-side programming
* Covers the architecture of the JCE, symmetric ciphers, asymmetric ciphers, message digests, message authentication codes, digital signatures, and managing keys and certificates
* Includes a companion web site that contains the code for the examples in the book, open-source cryptographic toolkits, and further resources RAR archive password: twilight zone

Ebooks : Computer Networking and the Internet (5th Edition)

Reader's review:
Summary: sweeping and up to date view
For the electronic engineer or computer scientist, Halsall provides a detailed and sweeping view of current computer networks. With an understandable emphasis on the Internet. To those readers who might consider computer networking synonymous with the Internet, the first few chapters explain otherwise. Like the telephone networks. Originally all analog, they are now mostly digital. Halsall goes through the sundry alphabet soup of ISDN, ADSL, SONET and the like. He shows that one of their defining characteristics is a circuit switching approach, which gives a very high reliability.
The book also covers recent developments in wireless nets. Including the infrared Bluetooth and the cellphone nets. Where the latter arguably affects as many people as the Internet.
Finally, as he ascends the protocol stack (which is another concept clearly explained), he gets to the Internet. Detailed exposition of DNS, which is one of the core functionalities. Email is also gone into, as this was the first killer app of the Internet. As someone who is involved with antispam technology, I found his description of the email structure and relaying to be concise and spot on. A good level of explanation that covers all the key points.
Naturally, for all of the book's topics, you can find entire books devoted to each. But the encapsulated view of the book is hard to beat.

Working With Active Server Pages : Ebook

This book has been needlessly slammed, in my opinion. I have 40 or more other ASP books, (lots of those red/yellow ones) and I learned stuff from this book that have not been mentioned in any of those. The strength of this book is the history of ASP, the how and why of it's development. There is a level of detail, and clarity missed in many other books. It doesn't cover everything (none do) but it covers include files, vbscript, COM objects and the usual cast of subjects with a refreshing level of detail and interest. Don't buy this book if you WANT ANSWERS MISTER. But if you are a disciple, get this one, as well. Can't beat the price!!

Ebook : How To Become A Muslim

Short Introduction

How Does One Enter the Fold of Islam?

In order to enter the fold of Islam and become a Muslim, there are no specific religious rituals or customs that one need to perform, neither in specific areas nor in front of specific people. This is due to the fact that Islam is a direct relationship between the slave and His Lord without any intermediaries. Also one does not need to exert great efforts [to enter its fold], he merely needs to utter a few words which are easy on the tongue but very weighty in meaning. One who has decided to become Muslim says the following words in order to enter the fold of Islam, which is called the ?Shahaadataan?:

?Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan
?abd-ullahi wa rasooluh.

?I testify that there is no true deity except Allah, and I
testify that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.?

This statement is the key to the door of Islam. Whoever utters it shuns all other religions besides Islam and all beliefs which differ from it. Through this statement, he receives the rights which all other Muslims receive, and he must fulfill the rights which all other Muslims must fulfill. His wealth, honor and blood become consecrate and protected, except for those cases in which the Islamic law needs to intercede. It is true that one is regarded to be a Muslim by what is outward and apparent and that only Allah knows what is truly in his heart, but one must know the meanings found in the Shahaadataan.

The Alarm Sensors and Security Circuits Cookbook : Ebooks

This book does not go into the theory behind any of the sensors shown, nor does it go into any of the theory behind the electronic and optoelectronic parts required to build any of the circuits shown. It is basically just a library of different kinds of alarm circuits complete with theory of operation and parts list for each circuit. The reader should therefore already be familiar with the basic techniques of designing circuits that include discrete electronic parts such as LED's and BJT's. It is a useful book of ideas if you are looking for a complete description of an alarm circuit that you can use for a larger circuit you are building. I cannot vouch for the overall accuracy of the book's circuits, but I have built about five of the circuits included in this book over the last two years, and they all worked OK without modification. The book is unique in that it shows you detailed circuit diagrams and parts lists for detecting humidity, earth movement, twilight, smoke, and fluids. It is relatively short at under 300 pages, but at its low price I consider it a bargain if you think you will ever be faced with designing any kind of alarm circuit. If you want to get more into the theory of the sensors that are showcased here, might I recommend Jacob Fraden's "Handbook of Modern Sensors", since it is heavy on theory and lighter on circuitry, making it the perfect companion for this book.

Fiqh us-Sunnah (The Principles Of Fiqh ) : Ebooks

Chapter 1

Usoolul-Fiqh: it is the science concerning the comprehensive evidences of fiqh. Since fiqh consist of either [i] masaa?il (issues) concerning which the ruling by one of the five rulings is sought, or [ii] it is the dalaa?il (evidences) employed in extracting and determining these masaa?il (issues). So fiqh is actualy knowledge of the masaa?il (issues) and the dalaa?il (evidences).
These dalaa?il (evidences) are of two types:-

Comprehensive evidences that encompass every ruling - from the beginning to the end of fiqh - of a single kind; such as our saying: ?al-amr lil-wujoob (a command is indicative of an obligation).? Or: ?an-nahee lit-tahreem (a forbiddance is indicative of a prohibition).? And other similar evidences. So these are part of usoolul-fiqh
Detailed evidences that are to be understood in the light of the comprehensive evidences. So when such is completed, then the ahkaam (rulings) can be resolved.
Thus, the ahkaam (rulings) are in need of their detailed evidences, and the detailed evidences are themselves in need of comprehensive evidences. So by this, we recognise the need and the necessity of knowing usoolul-fiqh, and that it aids in the understanding of fiqh itself, and that it is the foundations for deducing and making ijtihaad in the ahkaam (rulings).

Chapter 2

The ahkaam (rulings) upon which fiqh revolve are five:-

Waajib (obligation): that for which the one who performs it is rewarded, whilst the one who abandons it is punished.
Haraam (prohibition): this is the opposite of an obligation.
Masnoon (recommended): that for which the one who performs it is rewarded, whilst the one who leaves it is not punished.
Makrooh (detested): this is the opposite of a recommendation.
Mubaah (permissible): this is where both (its doing or leaving) are equivalent.
Those rulings which are waajib (obligatory) are divided into two catagories: fard ?ayn (individual obligation), the doing of which is sought from every mukallaf (morally responsible), baaligh (mature) ?aaqil (sane) person. The majority of the Sharee?ah rulings enter into this catagory. The second is fard kifaayah (collective obligation), the performance of which is sought from the morally responsible collectively, but not from every individual specifcally; such as the learning of the various branches of useful knowledge and useful industries; the adhaan; the commanding of good and forbidding of evil; and other similar matters.

These five rulings differ widely in accordance with its state, its levels and its effects.
Thus, whatever is of pure or of overwhelming maslah (benefit), then the Shaari? (Lawgiver) has commanded its performance with either an obligation or a recommendation. Whatever is of pure, or of overwhelming mafsadah (harm), then the Lawgiver has stopped its doing with either an absolute prohibition or dislike. So this asl (fundamental principle) encompasses all matters commanded of prohibited by the Lawgiver.

As for those matters which the Lawgiver has permitted and allowed, then at times they lead to that which is good, and so are joined to those matters which have been commanded; and at other times they lead to that which is evil, and so are joined to those matters which are prohibited. So this is a great asl that: ?al-wasaa?ilu lahaa ahkaamul-maqaasid (the means take on the same ruling as their aims).?

From this we learn that: ?maa yatimmul-waajib illaa bihi fahuwa waajib (whatever is required to fulfill an obligation is itself an obligation).? Likewise, whatever is required to fufill a masnoon (recomendation) is itself recommened. Whatever leads to the establishment of a haraam (prohibition) is itself prohibited. And whatever leads to the establishment of a makrooh (detested act) is itself detested.

Chapter 3

The adillah (evidences) that fiqh is derived from are four:-

The Book and the Sunnah, and these two are the foundation by which the mukallafoon (the morally responsible) are addressed, and upon which is built their Religion. Then ijmaa? (consensus) and al-qiyaasus-saheeh (sound and correct analogy), these two are derived from the Book and the Sunnah. So fiqh - in its entirety - does not leave the realms of these four usool (fundamentals).

The majority of the important ahkaam(rulings) are indicated to by these four adillah (evidences). They are indicated to by the nusoos (texts) from the Book and the Sunnah; and the Scholars have ijmaa? (consensus) about them, and they are indicated to by qiyaasus-saheeh (sound and correct analogy); because of what they entail of benefit, if it is a command; or what they contain of harm, if it is a forbiddance. Very few of the ahkaam have been differed over by the Scholars. In such cases the closest of them to the truth is the one who correctly refers back to these four usool.

Chapter 4

Concerning the Book and the Sunnah
As for the Book: It is al-Qur?aanul-?Adheem (the Great Qur?aan), the Kalaam (Speech) of the Lord of the worlds, which was sent down by the Trustworthy Spirit upon the heart of Muhammad the Messenger of Allaah sallallaahu ?alayhi wa sallam, that he may be from the warners to the whole of mankind - in the clear arabic tongue - regarding all that they stand in need of with regards to what benefits them concerning their Religion and their world. The Book of Allaah is that which is recited by the tongues, written in the masaahif (copies), and preserved in the hearts; regarding which:

?No falsehood can approach from before or from behind it, it was sent down from the All-Wise, the One deserving of all praise.?[Soorah Fussilat 41:42]

As for the Sunnah: It is the Prophet sallallaahu ?alayhi wa sallam?s aqwaal (sayings), af?aal (actions), and his taqreer (tacit approvals) of the sayings and actions of others.

The ahkaamush-shar?iyyah (Sharee?ah rulings) are sometimes taken from a definite text of the Book and the Sunnah; which is defined as that text possessing a clear meaning, which may not have any other meaning, except that single meaning. Sometimes it is taken from the dhaahir (apparent) meaning; which is defined as that which is indicative of the meaning, in a general manner, both through wording and meaning. Sometimes it is taken from the mantooq (explicit meaning); which is defined as being that which is indicative of the ruling due to the wording of the text. Sometimes the ahkaamush-shar?iyyah is taken from the mafhoom (implied meaning); which is defined as that which is indicative of the ruling due to being in agreement with the text; in cases where themafhoom is equal to, or stronger than the mantooq. Or by divergent meaning if the mafhoomdiffers from the mantooq in its ruling; whereas the mantooq is linked to a wasf (attribute) or a shart (condition), in the absence of which the ruling differs.

The dalaalah (indications) in the Book and the Sunnah are of three kinds:-

Dalaalah Mutaabiqah: this is where we apply the word to indicate all of its meanings.
Dalaalah Tadammun: when we employ the wording to indicate one of its meaning.
Dalaalah Iltizaam: where we employ the wording of the Book and the Sunnah to indicate the meaning which is a necessary consequence of it; and which follows on and completes it; and what the matter being judged with or being informed of cannot come about, except by it.
